There are various ways to correct a fatty liver and ward
off complications such as inflammation and scarring of
the liver. Fatty liver disease can result from poor diet
and lack of physical activity. With treatment, you can
reverse fatty liver and maintain a healthy liver.
1. Reduce body weight. Lose weight to fix a fatty liver
and prevent future complications. Eat low-fat or fat-free
foods such as fruits, whole grains and vegetables. Opt
for smaller meals to lower your calorie intake and pass
on fast foods, fried foods and sugar.
2. Start a workout program. Regular exercise can help
you drop extra pounds and improve your well-being.
Begin a consistent routine and plan for 30 minutes of
activity a day--take a walk, jog or join a gym.
3. Incorporate core exercises. Fatty liver disease is
common in persons with larger stomachs, due to excess
fat around the liver. Engage in stomach or core
exercises such as pilates or crunches to reduce belly fat
and get rid of a fatty liver.
4. Limit alcohol. Speed your recovery by avoiding
alcoholic beverages. Depending on your drinking habits,
alcoholic beverages can result in a fatty liver. Stay away
from alcohol and limit your intake to one alcoholic
beverage a day once your liver heals.
5. Recognize harmful medications. Certain prescription
medications can gradually damage the liver and impede
your efforts to reverse fatty liver. If your medications list
liver damage as a possible side effect, speak with your
doctor and ask for an alternative drug.
6. Consider medications. There isn't a specific drug to
treat fatty liver. However, taking a medication to reduce
your cholesterol and triglycerides (blood fat) can help
correct a fatty liver. Possible options include statins,
niacin and natural supplements like omega-3. Discuss
options with a doctor.
