Indo Gay Webseries : CONQ Episode 2 & 3 - The
Perfect Profile
Akhirnya keluar juga episode baru Conq Web
series setelah ditunggu-tunggu.
berbeda.
Episode 2 sih masih memiliki nuansa yang agak
mirip dengan episode pertama sih. Masih dengan
sentuhan humor mengangkat realita komunitas
gay di Indonesia dengan aplikasi Grindr (dan
sejenisnya). Emang bener kok sebagian besar dari
kita pernah di posisi seperti itu. Mungkin dengan
penggambaran yang tidak sedramatis video
karena sebagian besar dari kita memiliki
penampilan yang lebih biasa, tingkah laku yang
lebih biasa. Tetapi emang benar sih berbagai
cara dilakukan oleh orang orang dalam usahanya
menarik perhatian cowok lain di Grindr. Dan bener
banget sih banyak banget yang make foto palsu
dengan asumsi pada saat ketemu karena dah
sama sama horny, selama dia ga jelek jelek
banget toh dia akan tetep diajak ML. Toh
syahwat udah memuncak sampai ke ubun ubun
kepala dan berdenyut dalam setiap langkah di
dalam celana. Jadi sekalipun ga punya sixpack
seperti buntelan roti, tapi asal ga ancur ancur
amat yah udah lah embat aja. Toh abis keluar
berburu lagi. Kasarnya semakin horny, kadar
toleransi terhadap potongan di foto grindr dan
kenyataan yang berbeda menjadi semakin tinggi
juga.
Ketika selesai menonton episode 2, mulai berasa
kebayang seperti apa episode episode
selanjutnya.
Cuma kita terlalu
malu saja untuk mengakuinya. Tapi mulai agak
merasa "dimana yah letak ceritanya? Yah
sepertinya ini cuma video lucu lucuan berkualitas
tinggi yang dibuat dengan bantuan Ford
Foundation dan Nia Dinata" Yah ada sedikit
umpan lanjutan cerita di akhir episode dua, tetapi
percakapan mereka mulai dikhawatirkan akan
terjebak menjadi agak seperti novel karya penulis
berpikir, "Waduh, epidode berikutnya bakal
"pretentious" banget nih untuk memperlihatkan
betapa sophisticatednya para karakternya dengan
reference sastranya.
Tetapi ternyata episode 3 jauh banget dari
perkiraan. Suasana humor yang agak sarkastik
bitchy digantikan dengan adegan make out yang
cukup berani dan percakapan serta akting yang
natural. Belum lagi kekaguman karena mereka
sudah memasukkan karakter yang HIV + dalam
cerita yang masih terhitung dini. Jalan cerita yang
memaksa kita membuka mata dengan realita
yang sudah terpampang di depan mata kita.
Sekalipun agak aneh nantang push up di tengah
tengah kencan. Dan sebenarnya agak kurang
setuju karena karakter HIV+ baru memberitahukan
statusnya ketika mereka sudah setengah
nanggung. Bahkan kalau Lukas ga terlebih dahulu
berhenti untuk memberitahukan bahwa dia ga
atletis, si Aghi sepertinya tidak akan
memberitahukan mengenai statusnya dia. Dan
banyak orang yang karena udah kepalang horny,
udah setengah telanjang dan ga bisa mikir
dengan bener dalam posisi seperti itu. Pada di
saat diberitahu mengenai situasi partnernya,
mereka tidak bisa berpikir lurus. Akal sehat kalah
dengan isi celana yang sudah terlalu mendesak.
Banyak yang mungkin berpikir "Yah udahlah, yang
penting kayaknya aman" tanpa tahu bagaimana
caranya secara tepat melakukan dengan aman.
Seharusnya informasi seperti itu diberitahu
sebelumnya pada saat semua orang masih bisa
menganalisa informasi dengan benar dan
memutuskan bagaimana mereka akan
melanjutkan hubungannya. Bukan berarti
diskriminasi terhadap HIV+, tetapi setiap orang
juga memiliki hak untuk bagaimana mereka
menyikapinya.
positif. Kalau sudah sama sama tahu caranya,
kan bisa sama sama tenang melakukannya
Tetapi anyhow suka sih endingnya setelah mereka
Nice ending.
Kita tunggu deh kelanjutannya kalau gini yah. Toh
diubah:D

‘CONQ’ Aims to Shatter Cliches

The latest creation from up-and-coming,
internationally acclaimed director Lucky
Kuswandi, the new web series ‘CONQ,’ which is
available on YouTube, aims to break down cliches
and stereotypes of the Indonesian LGBT
community. (Photo courtesy of Lucky Kuswandi)
Filmmaker Lucky Kuswandi is regarded as one of
Indonesia’s most talented and exciting directors.
Featured at several international film festivals, his
work has hailed “original and uncharted” by the
Wall Street Journal.
Lucky has worked as an editor for, among others,
the award-winning short film “Payung Merah,”
and also counts two shorts, one documentary and
feature length film “Madame X” to his expanding
resume as director.
He is also the co-founder of CONQ, a blog
established two years ago to form a platform for
LGBT writers to speak their mind various topics,
from politics, health and fashion, to sex and
relationships.
“I felt that the LGBT media we currently have
mostly veer towards grass-root activism, and the
portrayal of LGBT as ‘victims’ of intolerance and
discrimination can be exhausting and alienating
to the general public,” Lucky said. “CONQ aims to
give a positive, fun, light and colorful take on the
LGBT community while still discussing serious
issues. We can speak out about the election as
much as about hooking up on Grindr [a social
networking application geared towards gay,
bisexual, and bi-curious men].”
CONQ does indeed cover a wide range of topics,
with the blog featuring several categories like
Entertainment, Lifestyle, Travel & Nightlife, and
Hot on the G-Spot.
“But when the LGBT community is attacked by
mainstream media, we also post in-depth
rebuttals aimed at the writer,” he added, referring
to an article printed in a local newspaper that
criticized the lifestyle of gay men and caused a
stir among the community.
After achieving moderate success — according to
Lucky, it receives more than 1,000 clicks per day
— it was time to take the blog to the next level.
“I decided to create a web series based on the
articles,” Lucky explained. “Since I work in the
film industry, short films is only a natural
extension to the blog.”
With the support received from both the Kalyana
Shira Foundation and the Ford Foundation, Lucky
and his friends created a 12-episode Web series
capturing the complexity of LGBT urban life, the
first episode of which was uploaded to CONQ’s
YouTube channel. Titled “Unstereotype Me,” the
debut showcases two contrasting gay characters,
Timo and Lukas, living in Jakarta. While one
happily engages in the lifestyle that has become
the stereotype of gay men, the other wants
nothing more than to break free from these
cliches.
For Lucky, it was the perfect topic to kick off the
web series.
“It starts from the very basic concept of gay,
which is the meaning of the word ‘gay’ in the
dictionary,” he said. “There’s this misconception
that gay people have to constantly be merry,
happy, colorful, loud; people who party and have
sex all the time. It’s a stereotypical image of
gays. And I don’t deny that stereotypes are only
an exaggeration of the truth. But there’s also
other kinds of gays that don’t fit into the
definition of the dictionary. They are regular
people who just happen to be gay; they don’t go
to parties, they don’t work in the entertainment
business, they don’t have to be fashionable.”
“I thought it’s a good place to start — the
definition of the word ‘gay’ itself, its impact on
the social image and construction of gay people,”
he added.
The second episode, released on Tuesday and
titled “The Perfect Profile,” tackles the unspoken
rules of online dating — from the question asking
if one should use a fake profile picture in order to
attract more potential hook ups, or a real photo
to find true love, to the actual first encounter,
which can in turn be either steamy or as awkward
albeit exciting as any first date.
“Other upcoming episodes will discuss various
matters, such as friendship, money issues, gay
bashing and bullying, HIV/AIDS and more — but
packaged in a funny and twisted way,” Lucky
said.
In addition to these videos, which are recorded in
Indonesian but come with English subtitles, Lucky
also decided to add two other categories to the
YouTube channel: namely the CONQ Inspiration
section and CONQ Shorts.
“In the CONQ Inspiration section, you can find
short films about inspiring LGBT figures who have
made a change, whereas CONQ Shorts are short
films submitted by our viewers and other LGBT
filmmakers,” he explained.
The criteria for CONQ is quite simple; Lucky has
to find the people who are featured here inspiring
in what they do.
“I prefer regular people rather than celebrities or
well-known public figures,” Lucky said. “The less
stereotypical they are, the better. For example,
Dalih Sembiring is inspiring because conducts
urban farming in his community. And by being out
with his boyfriend in public, and not making it an
issue, he is indirectly fighting for acceptance.”
The blog and the videos on YouTube all follow the
same goal: to portray LGBT life in Indonesia,
specifically in Jakarta, in a truthful way, as well
as to create a platform for LGBT to express their
voice, be it through writings for the blog or
producing films for the YouTube channel.
Although LGBT often times remains a sensitive
issue in Indonesia, Lucky said it wasn’t hard to
convince his friends to step in front of the camera
and become actors for his latest project.
“They knew what they were doing is positive
work,” he said. “There’s nothing wrong with it, so
there’s nothing to be afraid about.”
Although the web series has only been launched
one month ago, responses have been
overwhelmingly positive so far.
“Of course there are polarizing opinions, but
within the community itself we have received
many accolades,” Lucky said. “After only a
month, we received 9000 views for the web series
alone.”
When asked if Indonesia has made progress in
recent years in terms of accepting and embracing
LGBT, Lucky said it was not an easy question to
answer.
“I am surrounded with people who fully accept
LGBT,” he explained. “But now that everyone has
a voice through social media, homophobia
becomes more visible. If you read comments at
certain forums or discussion boards, it’s baffling
to see there’s still that many educated
‘Jakartans’ who are very discriminative towards
LGBT; even ‘socialites’ and best-selling authors
are irresponsibly spreading out hate in their
articles.”

episode 1. kalau ktmu sama tmen2 cong. (apalagi yg ngondek). entah kenapa semangat cong gw juga keluar. walau ga harus ngondek yah.. (cuman cantik dikit wkwkwk)

episode 3. speechless
we always dream of finding the right one.
and life sucks.
